A national league stop, hosted here

Cheer for Dallas. Help run the games.

The Irving Outlaws are RISE's home team in the USA Wheelchair Football League. This tournament puts their competition—and the volunteers behind it—in front of North Texas.

Wheelchair football is fast, physical, and strategic. Athletes compete in sport wheelchairs with rules adapted from American football, including passing, downs, scoring, and classification requirements.

Dallas last hosted the league's national championship in 2024, when the Dallas Cowboys — RISE's home team, since renamed the Irving Outlaws — won the title at the Automobile Building in Fair Park. Read the coverage.

What fans should watch for

Wheelchair football 101.

The official USAWFL rules adapt the field, tackling, kick plays, and lineups for wheelchair competition.

Seven players per team

Each lineup fields seven players and may total no more than 21 functional-classification points.

Four downs, 15 yards

The offense has four downs to reach the next 15-yard line or the goal line and earn a new series.

A shorter field

The field of play is 60 yards long and 22 yards wide, with an 8-yard end zone at each end.

One-hand tackles

A defender ends the play with one hand on the ball handler's body from the waist to the shoulder. Head and neck contact is not allowed.

Wheelchair contact

Offensive players may block wheelchair-to-wheelchair at or in front of an opponent's axle. Contact behind the axle and unnecessary roughness are fouls.

Kickoffs and punts are passes

A free kick pass starts each half and follows a try. Teams may also declare a punt pass from behind the line of scrimmage.

Familiar scoring

A touchdown is six points and a safety is two. After a touchdown, a pass is worth one point and a run is worth two.

Four 15-minute quarters

Regulation play is 60 minutes, with a 10-minute halftime and a 40-second play clock.
