What would you say if you clipped someone with your wheelchair? “Awesome!”
Come out to Georgia Farrow Recreation Center in Irving and that’s exactly what you will be able to say. We gather nearly every Friday and play a couple games of scrimmage. You can play as hard as you want. We encourage bringing your family and friends to get a taste of what we can do. Your friends and family will quickly realize what it takes to “push through”. This is a great way to get in a workout and play at the same time. Rugby will build physical strength, boost endurance and self- esteem. You will also make lifelong friends and connect to valuable resources.
Wheelchair rugby is typically played at a competition level for quadriplegics, but RISE recreational rugby is for ANY level of disability. We have all age ranges participating. RISE will supply the equipment and the court and it is always FREE. Most of our programs require a 48 hour reservation, but this is the exception. Just show up and have fun.
I was introduced to RISE in 2011 and it was the first program I regularly attended. I have met so many people. We encourage each other from a perspective we can relate to. I truly believe that as you gain the physical strength, self-esteem and endurance you will become physically, socially and financially independent. You then live RISE’s mission.
This program has been growing in leaps and bounds; we see new faces every week. The center is accessible by DART and Paratransit.
Address to Recreational Rugby is 530 Davis Drive, Irving, TX 75061. 7:00 – 9:00 PM
The only person missing is YOU! See you on Friday. Submitted by Susan Mahoney
